jurk charcoal is an all natural Brazilian hardwood known as acacia.  acacia is a highly sought after fuel in many countries, being one of the most desired for outdoor braai throughout Europe, south Africa and new Zealand. it is a very dense wood, delivering some of the best grilling properties in the world. it brings a very consistent burn, light smoky flavor and heat profile ideal for grilling and smoking proteins or veggies. 

being sustainable is at the forefront of JURK charcoal’s creed. without sustainability we could not have a charcoal which delivers all aspects of the word ‘premium’. acacia hardwood, which in brazil is an invasive species, has an incredibly fast growth rate, high yield and dense propagation. we have found it to be a long term suitable option to the market for usability, consistency and value. as well as tasty.

lump charcoal is simply, whole logs, sticks or chunks of wood which have been depleted of their moisture content. usually this is at least 85% or more drawn out of the material. This leaves you a product which will burn very well, very hot and for a very long time. you will also notice very little ash because no fillers, binders or other foreign materials are used. unfortunately, however; some lump charcoals are comprised of scrap pieces, leftovers or traditional lumber from mills. you may notice 2×4 looking pieces, 90 degree angles, or other signs that the charcoal is from a mill. not only should you be careful as these could have been heat treated at one time with caustic chemicals, you might find nails, rope, tools, or other bits of unwanted material. we don’t want that cooking our food!

jurk charcoal is 100% sourced from the field or farms which need the invasive acacia species removed. our price reflects the fact we don’t just use any wood available. you will not find any scrap lumber in our bags. you will find whole logs, sticks or chunks as our charcoal is either kilned on site in the field or at the main kiln depot. this ensures a very consistent product you can rely on and trust that your family will be eating the highest quality product attainable.  

shipping charcoal is a very inefficient process. not only does it require a heavy amount to be moved from one place to another, since all the water is removed from the wood, charcoal is not very dense for its size. this results large dimensions for little weight comparatively, which increases the cost to ship. also, charcoal is very brittle. you may have noticed a lot of very small chips & dust if you have ever emptied the bottom of a lump charcoal bag. this is mainly caused by repetitive stacking and handling of the product.

we combat this by moving our charcoal as little as possible. we sacrifice some longer shipping times for higher quality by only using a small amount of warehouse locations. we are also working hard to bring our charcoal to your local supply store, so we can support small business and ship direct. please bring in an empty bag or tell your local store manager to contact us that way you can pick up our product whenever you run out!

wholesale or pallet orders are welcomed for businesses with ltl access or a personal account that will have access to a dock. we are unable to ship pallets to residential locations unless you are in the boise, id area. we are able to provide a quote with or without freight included. please fill out our wholesale form here and we will be in contact with you very soon!
